Missing and damaged teeth that prevent you from eating the foods you love or engaging in activities you used to enjoy, is a really common problem. Unstable dentures that cause angst in social situations, or worse, cause you to hesitate to engage socially, can now be locked into position with implants giving you the confidence to re-engage like you used to.
What is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a small, man-made titanium screw that serves as the replacement for the root portion of a missing natural tooth.
When teeth are lost the facial structure collapses creating a caved-in look and therefore implants maintain the facial structure that gives you your unique look.
The implant is placed in the bone of the upper or lower jaw and bonds with the bone to act as an anchor for the replacement tooth that is fitted afterwards.
Dental implants can be used to replace a single lost tooth or many missing teeth and look, feel and function like real teeth. Not only can you consume all the foods you used to enjoy but may not have been able to chew, but your smile and your confidence gets a real boost too.

Single Tooth Implants
Having a tooth extracted is a sad occasion that has ongoing consequences. A gap can lead to the teeth around it tipping into the empty space or being damaged from the additional chewing burden. Dental implants help to maintain the integrity of your natural teeth.
A single tooth implant is advantageous because there is no impact on any of your neighbouring teeth, unlike alternative treatments such as bridges. As the implant replaces both the natural tooth and the root, it also allows for the bone in the gums to be better preserved. The implant integrates with the jawbone, keeping the bone intact and ultimately healthier.
The actual tooth or crown that sits on the implant (root) is impeccably crafted to match up with your existing teeth, so it becomes a seamless, beautiful and functional addition to your smile.

Multiple Tooth Implants

Multiple dental implants can used to replace longer spans of missing teeth in the mouth. They are permanently fixed into the bone and can be cleaned in the same way that you would your natural teeth. Each implant provides a stable base which provides a good base for eating and speaking as well as the aesthetic improvements of replacing missing teeth.
Dental implants have a high success rate and replacing lost teeth with implants can increase patient confidence, oral health and general health. The dental implants can help to restore some of the aesthetic and functional problems that come with missing teeth.
Implant-Retained Dentures
We find that many patients who are unhappy with dentures look for other treatments. They may find that their dentures feel loose or uncomfortable and it is not uncommon for dentures to spoil the taste of food as they cover up so much of the mouth. Patients also find that over time the bone changes from under the dentures making them slack and painful.
A useful solution to this is to use dental implants to support a denture. Dental Implants are placed into the bone and these are used to secure the dentures by either clipping in with magnets, fixing permanently or fixing in but in such a way so the dentist can remove the denture if required.
This method is very successful at reducing many of the issues associated with traditional gum supported dentures.

Teeth in a day
The all on 4 implant system
For many patients with no teeth the ‘all on 4’ method gives them back lots of confidence that they may have not have with their existing dentures. Usually, 4 or more dental implants are placed into the bone and a framework is made that replaces the teeth and gums. This is fixed to the implants effectively giving back security, comfort and function.

The ‘all on 4’ method also helps to retain bone levels which reduces the risk of a ‘sunken’ look which can sometimes be found with full or complete dentures.
Here at the Old Library Dental and Implant Centre, in some cases, we can offer this as a same day service or ‘teeth in a day’.
